life

Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve posted any photos.  Shanon and I have been knee deep in family time.  First, we took a cruise with my parents.  Shanon was sick for the first few days, but after that we really got to spend some great time together.  We sailed on the Norwegian Epic and traveled to St. Marteen, St. Thomas and Nassau.  We played the quarter machines, read by the pool, played ‘Deal or No Deal’, checked out the Ice Room and ate a lot of food.

This is a photo of a beach on St. John called Honeymoon Beach.  It’s just a short ride from the fairy then a walk through an amazing resort.  You can’t get to this beach without really wanting to get there.  Believe me, it’s worth it.  A small reef to the left and a ton of sea turtles just in front.

Here are a few photos of Vera lately.

LOOK

Look Mommy!  Look Daddy!  That’s pretty much everything Vera says now.  Look at this, look at that!  I’ve looked so much I thought you might want to look at all the things we’ve been seeing recently.

Look at our new Vitamix!  I can’t say enough about how much we love this!  It’s a great way to get Vera to eat vegetables and a great way for us to watch what we eat.  We put raw broccoli, kale, collard green, apples, frozen fruit and a whole lot of other goodies.  Vera likes to pull up a chair to the counter and help me put everything in.

Vera loves playing with her stuffed animals.  She’s constantly asking Minny to look at things.  This is a picture I took and she asked Minny to say ‘Cheese’ with her.

Our church does fun commercials sometimes before the service starts and Vera gets to be in THE BIG GAME promo video!  It’s just a fun video our church did about the upcoming BIG GAME.  She did great!  I’ll post the link after it airs this Sunday!  Here is a picture of her waiting for her big debut.

Merry Christmas

Well, it’s my first day off work after putting in seven days straight.  I know there are others who worked harder than I did, but none-the-less I’m exhausted.  In my exhuastion I’m finding myself in awe of the people I work with.  Their talent, wisdom, vision and ability to work with ease amazes me.  All these qualities remind me every Sunday that I don’t need as much intensity as I think I might need.

Shanon got to volunteer and take part in all four services at Church, which was awesome because we got to spend a lot more time together.  It was a great weekend and now we’re spending time with our families.  Here are a few more photos of our family!  Enjoy!

lately

Sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while.  I’m finding it difficult to keep up with this blog over the past few months.  Between traveling to Baltimore, taking a staycation and visiting Alabama it’s been hard to blog.  I’m going to take the easy way out and show you our lives through pictures from my phone.  I hope all is well in your part of the world.

We went to visit Shanon’s family in Alabama and had lots of fun sitting around the bonfire, watching the dogs, picking pumpkins and playing with Nana’s decorations.

A couple of weeks ago we headed to Maryland on an airplane to see our new nephew, London!  Isn’t that a great name?  He is bound to be an amazing kid.  We had lots of fun touring Mosaic‘s new building, wrestling in the family room, cheering for the white horse at Medievil Times and eating Neena’s pork chops.

In the midst of our short travels, Shanon and I were able to take a staycation (thanks to Bobby, Ginger and Mason coming in to watch Vera).  Shanon really stepped up his ‘game’ from presents to shopping to conversation topics.  He scored some major points!

To top it all off, we may just have an artist on our hands.  Vera loves to color and has been spending countless hours (Yes, I mean hours) sitting at the kitchen table coloring.

At the beginning of September Shanon and I headed down to Fort Walton Beach, FL for the annual ‘Kuhl’ vacation. It’s an unspoken rule that the place is reserved the same weekend every year and whoever can show up should be there. This year was the first time my entire family had been together in over two years. We headed down on Friday just in time to meet a tropical storm from beginning to end. By the third day into the windy and cloudy weather we were all ready to get out of the house by any means necessary.

During our indoor time I caught up on teaching Quint and Reagan (mostly Reagan) all the things I’m looking forward to teaching Vera once she can understand. Like…’It’s time to put your listening ears on’… they both would sit there and pretend to turn their ears on. So cute! I also brought a book someone gave Vera, but she’s not quite old enough for yet: Fancy Nancy. Nancy likes to be fancy and teach everyone about big words. Reagan learned the word: Fushia and Navy.

Finally when the sun came out we headed to the beach. Vera was scared the first day out by the ocean. There were still some waves from the Tropical Storm and I think the noise combined with the waves coming in scared her. By the second day in the sun she was ready to go! She ended up loving the water and couldn’t stay out.

if i don’t see you down here…i’ll see up there

This past week Shanon and I headed to Louisville for my Grandfathers funeral.  He passed away last Sunday night.  It was a hard week, but the upside was getting to see my family who I haven’t seen in a long time.  This is only my second time to Louisville this year which has been really hard.

At the visitation and funeral I met a lot of people who had been impacted by Carl Kuhl III and learned some things I didn’t know about him.  My brother, Carl, did the funeral and said there were three things we could learn from his life.  First, passionately be who you are.  Second, fiercely serve others.  And the last, humbly accept grace.  When he was called to serve in WW II he went and got 5 Gideon Bibles and gave them to his siblings and cousins.  They read a chapter together that day and then Granddad, who was 24, told them to read a chapter each day and wherever they were in the world they would be together.  When peace finally came the sat in the same living room and read a chapter together thanking God for bringing them back together.  That’s an incredible story.

The great thing about going to Louisville was getting to see everyone.  I haven’t seen my sister since last October and hadn’t seen Carl’s family since Christmas.   Here are some pictures of the family time we had together.
